Our History

The book that titled 'Gaziantep Kaynakçasına Giriş' (in english 'Introduction to Gaziantep Bibliography') prepared by Şeref Yaldırak was published in 2005. That compilation book included bibliographic information of 713 books and 2524 articles about Gaziantep. The number of books and articles has exceeded the numbers thousand and three thousand respectively (with recent additions on date 6th of February 2009).

In order to convey Gaziantep Bibliography to more people, a digital library concept was taken into consideration in 2007.

Provided SANKO Holding's support, Gaziantep now owns Turkey's first local digital library.

Our Benefits

Benefits that would be expected, thanks to the Gaziantep Digital Library and also a Bibliography Culture Centre are as follows:

- Reliability
Being the point of reference and information collection for researchers, this centre will let people to get complete and exact information about Gaziantep.

- Preserving the materials of cultural inheritance, the producers of the materials and the region
Materials that are saved under different media are disappering in the course of time due to careless uses, insufficient preserving circumstances, natural disasters and affects of microorganisms. It is regardless a fact that those materials have to be preserved carefully, since thay are carrying great inheritance from past to today and future. Digital Library is the best solution for this problem without hindering the library service.

Thanks to Digital Library, we will be aware of all materials in which there exist rich information about Gaziantep. Donating materials related with Gaziantep from any type, people will have the honour and pleasure of contributing to culture of Gaziantep. Materails that are not yet in the inventory will be tracked easily.

This work will immortalize people, who have prepared materials related with Gaziantep culture and who worked for the sake of Gaziantep. This work will be a stimulus for people who aimed to prepare new materials related with Gaziantep.

Thanks to the Library, it will be best understood, how rich the culture of Gaziantep is. This work will show how much Gaziantep had been investigated until that time and is still subject to common interest.

Of any age, of any level of education, everbody from all over the world can rapidly, 24 hours a day, access the materials in the Digital Library over internet. Thanks to Digital Library, readers will get rid of trouble of carrying heavy books. Due to fact that materials would not be lended as in a classical library, there will be no problem of waiting in line for the materials.

- Economic solution
Digital Library is a long term investment. That is, library service starts with a small cost. After a while, the service becomes everlasting with very small investment increments. However, the need of additional capacity is always a problem in a classical library. Thanks to Digital Library, it is possible to get rid of some types of cost items such as heating, cleaning, personel payments, security, transporting, printing and so on.

- Selecting reserach subjects more carefully
It will be possible to select research subjects meticulously. Unexamined and untouched subjects about Gaziantep will be preferred.
